MARIEL CUSHINGplayed by: Phoebe JonasMariel Cushing was born in Mundelein, Illinois on Christmas Day, 1972 during a freak snowstorm that lasted for almost the exact length of her mother's labor pains. When Mariel emerged from her mother's womb, she seemed to look calmly at each of the nurses. She began to cry hysterically, though, when she saw the male doctor's face. "That was the start of my Mariel's sometimes rough adventure with men," remarked her mother, Lynn. "I keep waiting for her to grow out of it."
First Boyfriend: Jimmy O'Brien - Sixth Grade High School Education: Mother Cabrini Catholic Academy for Girls, freshman and sophomore years. In sophomore year, after dating Pierre, Mariel submitted a 40 page document to her parents - with charts and graphs - pleading for "a reprieve from Catholic School." Impressed by Mariel's argument and looking forward to saving the tuition money, her dad allowed Mariel to give up the uniform and attend Mundelein Consolidated High School. (Mariel's mother, devoutly Catholic, cried for almost seven months continuously.
College Education: University of Berkeley, BS in Psychology First "Professional" Job: Working as a chief advisor for Donald Ellison, billionaire technologist, the world's most (in)famous bachelor and self-described philanthropist. After realizing that her talents were being squandered, Mariel resigned to form her own self-help group aimed at helping forlorn women find the perfect mate. Hobbies: Rollerblading, Kickboxing, Scrap-booking, Solving Jigsaw Puzzles, Shopping

EVERETT GREERplayed by Ian KahnEverett Greer was born in Santa Barbara, California on August 4, 1975. His parents are Amelie Greer, a retired movie actress whose career never went past a recurring part on the 80's TV show TJ Hooker, and Samson Greer, the inventor of infrared motion detectors. Because of Papa Greer's successful invention, Everett grew up in the lap of luxury with a thirst - and the parental training - for making his own fortune. "My son, Ev, once took out all my old publicity photos, biked into town, and tried to sell them to passersby," says Amelie Greer. "But when sales weren't going well, he made the claim that I had just died tragically and that the photos were now collectors' items. He sold enough to afford going out on his first date. But he couldn't go, of course, since I promptly grounded him for two months." At Santa Barbara High, Everett was always able to charm the female teachers into believing anything at all. Because of his inside track, Everett became the go-to guy for hall passes, excuse notes and advance answers to tests and pop quizzes. After graduating from Vassar College, Everett pursued a career in finance. Then in 2005, working for a large arbitrage firm, Everett made a quick killing with his simultaneous execution of two of the year's largest mergers & acquisition deals - netting him a multi-million dollar fee. Everett is now "retired" and living the life of Reilly in his spacious loft in New York City. First girlfriend: Uh. What was her name again? First REAL girlfriend: Come on. As if it really matters. First love: Mariel Cushing. Favorite Hobbies: House collecting, sailing, beautiful women.

EMMA HARRISplayed by Kelly BradyEmma Harris was born with perfectly blue blood flowing through her veins. Her parents, Missy and Chip Harris (of the Greenwich Connecticut Harris's), actually had a birthing room constructed in their expansive Darien estate so that Missy did not have to mix with the common people. So when Emma arrived on April 15, 1982, she was greeted by the best nurses, doctors, and wet nurses money could buy. "After I had Emma examined for flaws, and after I awakened from my anesthetic slumber a day or so later, I was happy to hold my perfect offspring," Missy Harris said, through clenched teeth. "Now I will begin preparing for the day she heads off to boarding school and begins her life as a proper Harris." But if Missy had been paying attention to her youngest of four "perfect" children, she would have seen troubling signs of non-Harris behavior. From Emma's days attending grammar school at exclusive Manhattan prep schools, she showed an affinity for those "common folk" that Missy had been so leery of - secretly, Emma would volunteer at soup kitchens during holidays, attend peace protests and, for shame, could often be spotted shopping at discount department stores. For Missy and "Silent Chip" (Chip, a Captain of Industry, would scarcely speak and, when he did, it was usually in the form of unintelligible aphorisms.), their 'troubled' daughter was exposed when on December 7, 2000 she brought home Vladimir Horowitz, her boyfriend from New York. Silent Chip looked as though his head would pop like a soap bubble, Missy gagged through dinner as though she needed a Heimlich, and Emma's brothers and sisters pummeled Vladimir with questions about his "native" food. It was after that evening that Emma went off on her own. Trying to make due with a common NYU education and a life alone in New York's single life and, for four years, few words with mum and daddy, Emma went off looking for a proper mate.. Emma had refused Missy's suggestions of hooking with one of those thin squash player boys from an 'approved' family and now she had to tackle single life on her own. A scary prospect for sure for ANY woman in New York. But the wonderful secret is... whoever wins Emma's heart will not only gain a well-bred, smart, attractive and charming woman in the prime of her life and with a heart bigger than Greenwich, he will also gain a gold mine. While disappointed with Emma's life path, Chip has made it certain that when Emma reaches thirty, she will still receive the keys to her 100 million dollar trust fund. This is a secret Emma is certainly saving for marriage.
LIZA RICHARDSONplayed by Aya CashLiza Richardson was born in Grand Prairie, Texas on June 8, 1980. Her mother says about her daughter: "My Darlin' was born with so many talents but she's missing the little valve in her brain that stops her from blurting out every doggone nasty, perverted, just plain awnry thing on her mind!" Nonetheless, to the people close to her, Liza's sense of humor, her love of music (she can recite almost any lyric from any song published from 1966 to the present day), and her unwavering loyalty to her friends and family more than overcome Liza's frequent "embarrassing commentary."
First Boyfriend: In eighth grade, George Anderson, Eugene Yagle (It was a tie.) In senior year, Liza was voted "Most Likely To Start A Bar Fight." She wrote in her yearbook: "I wish my dad were here to see me now. Almost a woman, almost ready to go out there and make him proud!" Liza now works as an air traffic controller at LaGuardia International Airport. A star employee, with every possible commendation to her credit, Liza's boss thinks her keen eyes, her energy and her willingness to be very, very direct with wandering pilots makes her the most valuable member of his team. Favorite Hobbies: Learning to fly, scuba diving, stone sculpture, online dating, and MUSIC!

GRACE WISEplayed by Trace TurvilleGrace Wise was born in Miami, Florida on a bright, sunny and hot Juneteenth in 1975. A bright child, Grace was repeating the alphabet by 8 months and counting to 100 by age 12 months. "She's a genius!" her mom, Stacey, would boast. To which her husband, Neil, would say, "If she's such a genius, why isn't she walking?" Seems what Grace got in sheer mental power, she failed to get in coordination. Grace didn't walk until she was 19 months old and even then, she was known for walking into walls, falling off chairs during meals and tripping on her own feet. "I've got too much on my mind to watch where I'm going, mommy!" the precocious Grace would tell her mother (at age 2). But it's a pattern that took a serious toll on her social life. Grace was always the last to be picked for dodge ball, the first monkey to be picked for Monkey-In-The-Middle, and the one never to be picked on Valentine's Day (except by her dad). So, Grace followed her skills and studied - HARD. Which paid off, she became the valedictorian at Dunedin High School, Class of 92, and was voted to be "Best To Sit Next To During Finals." An honor she was strangely fond of. Grace was accepted to Princeton University then Harvard Law School where she also graduated with honors. Now, Grace is a junior partner at the law firm of Osterreicher, Metcalf, Goober, Michelin and Oxe where she heads up the Pro Bono department. Most favorite case so far: representing an indigent opera singer who had been wrongfully denied admission to the second round of a televised singing competition on the grounds of a large derriere. Jury Award: 3.5 million dollars for pain and suffering. (The contestant was last spotted by a tabloid at the All You Can Eat buffet at a Las Vegas casino.) Grace's success is in polar opposition to her dating career. Her physical awkwardness now manifests itself as acute stuttering whenever in the presence of a love interest. Needless to say, this attractive, intelligent and sweet soul now spends her evenings mostly alone. "Why am I such a FOOL in front of men?" Grace writes in her diary. "I have so much to give to a man, damn it! Someone PLEASE let me show it!"
JACK SELLERplayed by Nicholas WebberJack Seller was born in Atlanta, Georgia on February 14, 1977 to a carnival barker father named Constance Seller, who gained fame throughout Georgia for being able to sell anything to anyone. Constance once sold the deed to a building that was on fire for three hundred dollars to a spectator watching the blaze. Problem was, Constance didn't own the building. He served 90 days at the county jail. Because of his checkered dad, Jack ended up living most of his childhood with his straight-laced mother, Marion, a church pianist at the Antioch Baptist Church in Fayetteville. It is there that Jack learned how to play piano - hanging around after church services to tinker on the keys, teaching himself Gospel riffs with infusions of Fusion and Boogie Woogie. Jack got so good at the piano that, at the age of 13, he was playing dates at local bars with his three-piece ensemble called Toe Head and the Tapping Feet. While he barely made it through Fayette County High School, Jack did receive a music scholarship to Georgia State University. "This school saved my life," said Jack at his Georgia State graduation ceremony. "If it weren't for Mrs. Underlings' music theory class and her daughter Angie's after school tutoring - wink, wink - I would have ended up a barker like my dad." After Georgia State, Jack repeatedly applied to the Julliard School of Music in New York but was repeatedly denied. Seems he had paid too much attention to Angie and not enough to music theory. But he did manage to score Angie, who moved with him to the Big Apple. With her encouragement, Jack managed to get a steady gig of piano playing dates around town. Enough to pay the rent, but not enough to fund his big dream: staging an off-Broadway musical for which he wrote the story and music. That's when two things happened: Angie left Jack for a trombone player with a steady gig on the musical Phantom of the Opera. Then, Jack accepted the job as the Superintendent at the Palendrome Apartments in Manhattan. "The superintendent thing is just free rent and an excuse to play with tools," Jack tells Mariel Cushing during their fateful dinner meeting. "Jazz piano is what I really like to do." Now Jack has only five thousand dollars left to save before he can stage his off-Broadway musical, now titled, "Angie's Dead." |
